The event unfolded at the ‘Oja Irorun’ Civil Servants Farmers’ Market within the Governor’s Office premises in Abeokuta.
Represented by the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, Governor Abiodun emphasized the significance of the occasion in enhancing the living standards of the state’s workforce.
He commended the workers’ commitment, acknowledging their pivotal role in the success of his administration.
“Ogun State civil servants’ dedication and hard work form the bedrock of the progress and prosperity of our dear state,” noted the governor. “Recognizing this invaluable essence, the administration has graciously approved the sale of high-quality rice at discounted prices exclusively to the workforce.”
Encouraging workers from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to seize the opportunity, Governor Abiodun urged them to embrace the government’s gesture wholeheartedly.
In his welcome remarks, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, represented by Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, expressed gratitude for the government’s initiative.
He highlighted it as one of several measures aimed at mitigating the impact of the fuel subsidy removal on the state workforce.
While urging workers to reciprocate the government’s goodwill by maintaining dedication to their duties, union leaders, including Comrade Isa Olude from the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC) and Comrade Ademola Ahmed-Benco from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), lauded the initiative.
They emphasized its potential to restore purchasing power and enhance workers’ welfare, affirming Governor Abiodun’s caring and responsive leadership.
Beneficiaries like Mrs. Temitope Akintayo and Mr. Olabanji Sanni expressed gratitude for the government’s action and pledged continued diligence in service delivery.
The distribution of rice to beneficiaries by Mr. Onasanya, alongside the provision of buses to transport workers, marked a tangible manifestation of the government’s commitment to supporting its workforce.
Governor Abiodun’s administration has consistently pursued measures to shield the people of Ogun State from the adverse effects of the fuel subsidy removal, including monthly cash palliatives, peculiar allowances, provision of CNG buses, and substantial end-of-year bonuses for civil/public servants.
