The Northern Elders Forum (NEF), has slammed President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying that the Northern region regrets voting for him in the 2023 general elections.
Speaking in an interview with Guardian on Tuesday, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, spokesman of the forum revealed the characteristics of the candidate the region will vote for in the 2027 presidential election.
He said going forward, the region will prioritise someone who is seen as more inclusive, less controversial, and more aligned with the interests of all regions of the country.
In his words: “The North made a mistake in voting Bola Tinubu to the presidency in 2023, and it is unlikely that they will repeat the same error in the future.
“They have learned from their past misstep and will strive to select a candidate who can unite the country and govern in the best interests of all Nigerians.
“Moving forward, the North will be more cautious in selecting a candidate for the presidency. They will prioritise someone who is seen as more inclusive, less controversial, and more aligned with the interests of all regions of the country.
“The mistake of supporting Tinubu in 2023 has taught them the importance of unity and consensus in selecting a candidate for the highest office in the land,” he was quoted as saying.”
Last month, President, Christ Apostolic Church, Nigeria and overseas, Pastor (Dr) Henry Ojo urged Nigerians to be patient with the Tinubu’s government, saying that what they are facing now is not new in the history of Nigeria and the history of the world.
The cleric recalled that Nigerians faced even more terrible times in 1984 during the military regime of Muhammadu Buhari, but survived it.
He stated, “Since God made it possible for us to survive that time, we will survive this period as well.
“We need to be patient with this government. What we are facing is not new in the history of Nigeria and in the history of the world. We faced terrible times more than these times in 1984 during the regime of Muhammadu Buhari when he was in the military government. We need not to forget that, but we survived it.
