The Kano-based National and State Assembly Election Petition Court has annulled the election of the representative member Federal District of TarauniMukhtar Yarima.
The election of Mr. Yerima, a member of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), was annulled for falsifying certificates.
All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Hafizu Kawu challenged Mr. Yerima’s election in court for allegedly falsifying his primary school certificate.
On Thursday, a three-member panel of the court headed by IP Chima, in a two-hour trial, ruled that the primary school certificate, submitted by Mr. Yerima to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was falsified.
The court held that the Hausawa Elementary School, which Mr. Yarima claimed to have attended, had repudiated the certificate and the lawmaker never attended the school.
The court declared that all the votes obtained by Mr. Yarima under NNPP during the election were a waste and accordingly returned and declared the winner of the petitioner, Mr. Kawu of the APC as the second runner-up in the election.

The court ruled that the person with the next highest number of votes is the rightful winner of the election and the candidate must be re-elected.
In response to the ruling, a lawyer representing APC, Nureini Jimoh, Senior Advocate for Niger (SAN), welcomed the development and praised the ruling.
He said that the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), Article 66, subsection one, subsection (i), states that any person who submits a forged certificate to the electoral commission (INEC) is disqualified from participating in the elections. From the beginning.
Efforts to speak to NNPP representatives in court were unsuccessful, as none of them were available to speak to reporters.
