On Friday, the former governor of Kwara State, AbdulFatah Ahmed, was brought to court for trial over alleged misappropriation of N10 billion of the state fund. However, journalists were prevented from entering the Federal High Court in Ilorin to cover the trial by the police and court registrar, who claimed they were acting on orders from above.
Wahab Oba, Chief Press Secretary to the ex-governor, expressed his disappointment on the court’s decision to bar journalists from covering the trial, stating that the trial should be transparent and open. According to him, the former governor was supposed to be arraigned by the EFCC, and the trial was a political prosecution.
At the time of writing, the journalists were still waiting outside the court premises for the judge’s arrival and the outcome of the trial.
