The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state rejected the nomination of Kolade Akinjo as state representative on the board of directors of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The party said Akinjo had been a member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and worked against the APC and its presidential candidate in the last election.
However, party leaders, in a virtual meeting on Wednesday, praised President Bola Tinubu for the appointment of Ifedayo Abegunde as Executive Director of Corporate Services for the Commission.
The meeting’s resolution was contained in a Wednesday statement by the party’s publicity secretary, Alex Kalejaiye.
The party’s state chairman, Ade Adetimehin, chaired the emergency meeting.
APC chiefs, reaffirming their loyalty to the president, applauded his efforts to rebuild the economy.
“We grant Mr. President the right to appoint any qualified Nigerian to any office, having given him the popular mandate to preside over our affairs,” the statement said.
“We just want to remind Your Excellency that Mr. Kolade Victor Akinjo was a candidate for the House of Representatives of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) during the presidential elections, after having served two terms on the platform of the opposition party.

“It is equally pertinent to state that, while Mr. President’s desire to instill inclusive government for the good of the people, we doubt that someone who has worked assiduously for his party, the PPD, as well as for his presidential candidate, Abubakar Atiku, on the power of anti-APC slogans, is a better fit than our numerous members for the excellent work.
“Therefore, we fear that appointing such a man to an influential position may demoralize our members, particularly in the Ilaje/Ese-Odo federal constituency, who contributed immensely to the overall votes of the Sunshine State.
“Under the circumstances, we have no doubt that Mr. President will review Akinjo’s nomination as Ondo State Representative to the NDDC Governing Board and bring in someone who is known to have worked for the party.”
However, party leaders praised the president for appointing Ifedayo to the NDDC board of directors, describing him as a committed party leader who worked tirelessly for the party before and during the general election.
“The leadership of the ruling party in Ondo calls on our dear president to take a second look at the appointment of Mr. Akinjo, to avoid the unpleasant situation of ‘The monkey works, the baboon cuts,’” the leaders added.
Chairman Tinubu announced a 17-member NDDC board on Tuesday, saying his appointment was effective immediately.
Those appointed include Chiedu Ebie – President – Delta: Samuel Ogbuku – Managing Director/CEO – Bayelsa; Boma Iyaye – Executive Director (Finance and Administration) – Rivers; Victor Antai – Executive Director (Projects) – Akwa-Ibom; and Ifedayo Abegunde – Executive Director (Corporate Services) – Ondo.
The state representatives are Dimaro Denyanbofa – Bayelsa; Abasi Ndikan Nkono-Akwa; Monday Igbuya–Delta; Tony Okocha – Rios; Patrick Aisowieren–Edo; Kyrian Uchegbu – In my opinion; Victor Kolade Akinjo-Ondo; Dimgba Eruba-Abia; and Asu Oku Okang–Cross River.
Also on the list as zone representatives are Nick Wende – North Central; Namdas Abdulrazak – Northeast and Ibrahim Abdullahi Gobir – Northwest.
