Amid the ongoing economic challenges, Salihu Lukman, a former member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has appealed to the ruling party’s leaders to avoid giving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu misguided advice in his attempts to tackle the country’s problems.
According to The Nation, his advice was conveyed through a statement released in Abuja on Friday titled “APC and the question of liability: An Open Letter to APC Leaders.”
Lukman, a former North West APC National Vice Chairman, highlighted that the party leaders’ failure to provide sincere and patriotic advice on policies contributed to the downfall of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He stressed the importance for APC leaders to return to their previous role as visionary politicians and initiate more significant political reforms to realign the APC with its original vision of being a progressive political party, considering the current state of the country.
Expressing his concern, he stated, “Given this reality, it is painful to admit that both the APC as a party and the government of President Tinubu are becoming increasingly unpopular with Nigerians.”
“No one should be deceived that, given the way we are becoming more and more unpopular, we are faced with the risk of rebellion by ordinary Nigerians.”
While acknowledging that the former administration under President Buhari failed to meet the expectations of party members and Nigerians in general, he cautioned that the success or failure of the former administration reflects the collective success or failure of the APC as a party.
