A 23-year-old man was taken to Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital to receive medical treatment after he suffered severe burn injuries.
On Sunday, 11 February 2024, a fire broke out at the house on Gama Street in Meadowlands Zone 6 and a 23-year-old man who was sleeping inside was rescued by his sister with assistance from community members.
Firefighters along with an ambulance responded to the scene and upon their arrival, the victim was transported to Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital. The flames were extinguished by Firefighters but unfortunately, all of the household items were destroyed.
The sister of the victim, Zandile Magwaza claims that the problem started when the electricity was restored after load shedding and this might have caused the fire. The incident will be investigated further by the relevant authorities.
Magwaza pleads with the public to assist the family with basic items such as food, shelter and clothing.
