Femi Falana, a lawyer and someone who fights for fairness and justice in Nigeria, said that rich people in Nigeria get special benefits, like getting oil fields without putting much money in, which makes them rich very quickly.
He said this system is bad and pointed out other special things rich people get, like not having to pay some taxes or fees.
He worries that if rich people can do whatever they want without the government watching, it could harm Nigeria’s control over its own country. Falana said it’s important to control the economy so that only a few people don’t end up with most of the money.
In Femi Falana’s statement in a video (7:30) an interview with Channels TV, he said,
“Subsidies are introduced every day and in every country in the world including leading capitalist society, goods are subsidized. I’m saying that the rich are subsidized in Nigeria. You take the oil resources from the Niger Delta and you give Oil blocks to some individuals. People who didn’t invest a dime and they became instant billionaires by simply hawking the license given to them.”
