The New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) on Tuesday expelled its chairman of the board of directors (BoT), Boniface Aniebonam, and several other national officials for alleged anti-party activities.
The National Secretary for Publicity, Agbo Major, and many other officials were affected by the raid.
Their national legal adviser, Robort Hon, who said this at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, accused them of sabotaging the NNPP.
Hon accused Aniebonam of creating a parallel group within the party with a view to stirring up party discontent.
“At the NNPP National Executive Committee (CNE) meeting held in Abuja today, August 29, 2023, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, Agbo Major and several others were expelled from the party.
“The NEC also tabled several other motions related to the party logo, constitution amendment, ratification of interim state committees, and suspension of two articles of the NNPP 2022 constitution.
“At the meeting were Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State; the Acting National President, Malam Abah-Kawu Ali; the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly; Ing. Buba Galadima and many others.
“NEC noted that these suspended (now expelled) individuals allegedly held a Board of Directors meeting in Apapa, Lagos this morning. Naturally, their meeting was null and void and had no effect,” said the NNPP legal adviser.
He said the party’s CNE supported motions to extend the term of acting national president Abah-Kawu Ali and redesign the party’s logo.
In his remarks, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf said he would continue to work closely with Rabiu Kwankwaso in his efforts to reposition the NNPP.
Also addressing the CNE, the party’s national secretary, Olayoku Dipo, said the party was in the process of establishing a duly constituted BoT in accordance with its constitution.
Dipo said the party leadership was planning to change the NNPP logo, adding that the party’s fortunes in the 2023 general election were affected by the current logo.
Furthermore, NNPP BoT Secretary Buba Galadima praised the party’s NWC for its role in stabilizing the party.
The faction fired Kwankwaso earlier
Meanwhile, earlier in the morning, the BoT faction of the NNPP, led by Aniebonam, suspended the party’s presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, at their meeting in Lagos.
BoT Secretary Babayo Abdullahi said Kwankwaso had been suspended for six months for anti-party activities, adding that he had also suspended the party’s NWC.
Abdullahi said the suspension was put to a voice vote by party members at the special general assembly held in Lagos.
“The BoT also appointed new national officials headed by Dr. Agbo Major as Acting National President and Comrade Ogini Olaposi as Acting National Secretary, along with 18 others,” it said.
