A former presidential aide and a Chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Bashir Ahmad, has reacted after meeting with a supporter Peter Obi, during the ongoing African Cup of Nations, in Ivory Coast.
While speaking, Mr Bashir Ahmad made it known that football is the only thing that can bring the country today, irrespective of religion or ethnicity.
Speaking further, Bashir Ahmad noted that while they were celebrating after the match between Nigeria and South Africa, someone approached him, screaming ‘Nigeria’ on top of his voice. He went on and noted that they took pictures together and the person then confessed to him to he was Peter Obi’s supporter.
Mr Bashir Ahmad made this disclosure in a post he made on his official X handle, noting that in such a moment of victory, Nigerians were united and also celebrated the victory together.
He wrote: “Perhaps football is the only thing that can bring this country together, irrespective of religion or ethnicity. I was amazed by a particular event in Ivory Coast yesterday. After the match, while we were celebrating, someone approached me screaming NIGERIA on top of his voice.
“We hugged and took photos. In a whisper, he confessed he was an Obidient, but in such a moment of victory, we were united and celebrated our victory together. It is a thing like last night’s match would tell you that in our unique ways, we all hold a deep love for Nigeria.”
It should be recalled that the country’s national team, the Super Eagles on Wednesday defeated South Africa in the ongoing African Nations Cup in Ivory Coast. The Super Eagles will on Sunday play against the Ivorian National team on Sunday, to determine who becomes the champion.
