Three individuals, Musa Gideon, Abdul Seidu Adamu, and Justine Musa, have been taken into custody by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on suspicion of currency racketeering. According to the commission, the suspects were apprehended on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, along Yakubu Gowon Way in Kaduna, while attempting to sell both new and old naira notes to an undercover operative from the EFCC’s Special Task Force.
The sting operation, which was carried out by the team, resulted in the seizure of N1,307,400 (One Million Three Hundred and Seven Thousand, Four Hundred Naira) worth of new and old naira notes, as well as several Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards.
Once the investigations are completed, the suspects will be charged to court. Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC Chairman, established the Special Task Force to enforce extant laws against currency mutilation and dollarization of the economy.
