The Police Service Commission has compulsorily recalled four deputy inspectors general of police.
The commission said it made the decision “in accordance with the Third Schedule, Part 1M, paragraphs A and B of the 1999 Constitution, reinforced by Section 6 of the Commissions (Establishment) Act 2001, paragraphs a, c, d, e, and f”.
The DIGs affected are Dan-Mallam Mohammed, Moses Jitiboh, Hafiz Inuwa and Adeleke Bode.
The PSC, in a statement by its spokesman Ikechukwu Ani, said it made the decision after officials refused to resign following the appointment of their deputy, Kayode Egbetokun, as the new police inspector general.
“Following the appointment of the Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, on June 19, 2023 by Mr. Chairman, the Commission hoped, in keeping with the revered tradition of discipline and regimented culture of the Nigerian Police that those DIGS who were of higher rank prior to their elevation will voluntarily request retirement or choose to leave the Force.
The Commission, after having waited a long time without any of them making such a request, made the decision to mandatorily withdraw them in order to maintain the discipline that is the basis of the Force and discourage the reversal of status that is inherently adverse to the exercise of their functions. authority of the Inspector General.
He also announced the appointment of four new senior police officers to replace the released DIGs.

The DIGs affected are Dan-Mallam Mohammed, Moses Ambakina Jitiboh, Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa and Adeleke Adeyinka Bode.
Following the appointment of the Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, on 19 June 2023 by Mr. Chairman, the Commission hoped, in keeping with the Nigerian Police Force’s revered tradition of discipline and regimented culture , that those DIGS who were of higher rank prior to his promotion will voluntarily request retirement or choose to leave the Force.

Consequently, the former DIGs were mandated to immediately proceed to mandatory retirement effective Friday, August 25, 2023. Similarly, the Commission also approved the appointment of four Deputy Inspectors General of Police at the rank of Deputy Inspectors General of Police, which would be subject to ratification by the Board of the Commission to replace the retired DIGs.
Newly appointed DIGs with no Pending Disciplinary Matters and/or no serious medical conditions or health concerns were selected from the same respective geopolitical regions as the retirees.
They are Ibrahim Sani Ka’oje from DIG; Daniel Sokari – Pedro, Ayuba Ekpeji and Usman Nagogo.
While congratulating them on their promotion to the enviable rank of DIG, the Commission hopes that their appointment will add value and further vigor to the efforts of the Nigerian Police to fulfill their mandate.
