uthorities of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Saturday confirmed that there was blackout as a result of power supply failure at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Friday, attributing it to the loss from the national grid.
Some conventional media on Saturday morning reported that there was blackout at the airport on Friday evening which lasted for some minutes, throwing some passengers, especially foreigners, into confusion while the outage lasted.

However, while giving an update on the incident on Saturday, FAAN disclosed on its X handle that the outage was as a result of the loss of power it recorded from the national grid, adding that it later switched to its back-up power supply.
FAAN wrote on its X handle: “We experienced a 2-3 minute outage at Murtala Muhammed International Airport yesterday, February 2nd, 2024, while switching over to our back up power supply after losing power from the Grid.
“The electrical team has identified the challenges with the automatic switch over and working judiciously to restore this immediately. We have put a plan in place leveraging the alternative sources of power to ensure we do not have a reoccurrence.”
