A look at the goal logs of the top European leagues shows that only 6 teenagers have scored 5 or more goals so far this season as per Fbref. Interestingly, the player on of the list is a Nigeria-eligible striker. Who is this young scorer?
The leading teenage scorer in the top leagues of Europe is Samuel Omorodion Aghehowa. This 19-year-old striker has netted 7 La Liga goals this season. He began with one goal in his debut game of the competition on the first match day of 2023/24 season. The Alaves forward got his best output so far on January 26 when he got a brace against Almería. Interestingly, he got the credit for both the opener and the final goals as his side won by 3-0.
Meanwhile, since Omorodion was born in Spain, he is eligible to Play for the European country. It should be noted that he has scored two goals for the Spain U-21 squad since he made his debut for them last year. However, he is still eligible to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria since he has not played in a competitive game for the Spaniards.
The second man on this list is George Ilenikhena. Unlike Omorodion, this Belgium-based forward was born in Lagos. However, he moved to France before his tenth birthday. This striker is currently playing his trade at Antwerp in the Belgian top flight and has scored 6 times for the club in the Jupiler Pro League this season. Though he is brought up in France, Ilenikhena is eligible to play from Nigeria as a result of his parentage and place of birth.
The other four footballers on the list are Evan Ferguson (Ireland), Lucas Stassin (Belgium), Sávio (Brazil) and Semih Kılıçsoy (Turkey). Ferguson and Stassin have scored 6 goals in the EPL and Belgian top flight respectively. The other two players have registered 5 goals each in La Liga and Turkish Super Lig.
