According to a report by This Day Live, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the upcoming 2023 general election,
highlighted the imperative of transitioning Nigeria from a consumer-centric to a producer-centric nation during his campaign in Jos.
He emphasized the importance of providing meaningful employment opportunities for youths to address the escalating rate of criminal activities.
Obi also cautioned against the practice of vote buying, urging citizens to resist such activities as they contribute to heightened insecurity and poverty.
He expressed dismay at the deteriorating state of Plateau, which was once a center for agricultural production and economic activities but is now plagued by insecurity.
Julius Abure, the National President of the LP, echoed concerns about the escalating cost of living, urging voters to choose competent candidates.
He stressed the importance of safeguarding electoral mandates to prevent the recurrence of past injustices.
Both leaders called for unity and active participation in the electoral process, emphasizing the responsibility of citizens to vote conscientiously in order to shape the future of the nation.
He said:
“We must all come out to vote and defend our votes. I want to say clearly and categorically too that what happened to us in the general election of 2023, where there was an open robbery of our presidential mandate can never again happen.
“So, I urge you to come out on Saturday and vote and defend your votes. Let’s work together with one spirit, with one mind, with unity of purpose, and we shall defeat them as victory is sure.”
