The Nigerian Armed Forces buried the remains of military personnel killed in combat and in the recent crash of the Nigerian Air Force MI-171E helicopter in Niger on Friday.
The burial ceremony for 20 deceased personnel was held at the Abuja National Military Cemetery, in accordance with military tradition.
It also means a mark of honor for their bravery and sacrifice in defense of the nation.
The bodies of the 20 deceased arrived at the cemetery from Kaduna at noon for the funeral, as some of the fallen heroes had already been buried elsewhere.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) recalls that three officers and 22 soldiers were killed in an ambush in the general Zungeru area of the state, while seven were wounded in combat.
The NAF helicopter was on a mission to evacuate dead and injured soldiers when it crashed in the Chukuba area of the state’s Shiroro local government area on Aug. 13.
The crashed helicopter was carrying 14 bodies of the previously deceased soldiers and seven wounded, two pilots and two crew members.

The funeral was attended by the Defense Minister, Muhammed Badaru; the Minister of State for Defense, Bello Matawalle; the Chief of the Defense Staff (CDS), Christopher Musa; heads of service, families and sympathizers of the fallen heroes.
The governors of the states of Kaduna and Niger were represented at the funeral.
The act included the placement of a wreath by the two ministers and the delivery of the National Flag to the relatives of the deceased personnel by the CDS and heads of service.
