On January 19, 2024, Major General Aderonke Kale (Rtd) was laid to rest at St James Anglican Church in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. She was the first female Major General in the Nigerian Army and a pioneer in breaking gender barriers within the military. General Kale passed away on November 8, 2023, at the age of eighty-four.
During the funeral, representatives from the Nigerian Army paid their respects to the late General. Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Toareed Lagbaja led the delegation. Major General Gbeminga Adesina represented the Chief of Army Staff and acknowledged General Kale’s exemplary life. He described her as a dedicated and committed servant of the nation and an inspiration to others.
Prior to the funeral, a Service of Songs and Tribute Night was held on January 16, 2024, at the Admiralty Conference Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. A wake keep was also held at the Chapel of the Resurrection Hall, University of Ibadan, where friends, family, and colleagues gathered to honor and remember the late Major General.
The ceremony drew the presence of notable figures, including the General Officer Commanding 2 Division Nigerian Army, alongside other senior officers and commanders of the Nigerian Army.
