A law student at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Cross River State, said recent stories of sexual harassment at the school’s law school were “very frightening” to the point that she contemplated dropping out.
The student, who is cooler, spoke to Newslodge on Wednesday at the university campus.
“I am a new student and coming back to school for my second semester, hearing about this saga scares me a lot, I have to admit. I thought about making a transfer to another institution, but then I realized that it can happen anywhere, ”she said, while asking that her name not be mentioned in the story for fear of being victimized.
The student, however, said that she had not been harassed by any teacher since she entered the school.
He said that having evidence to support a sexual harassment allegation is really what it takes to catch teachers who are sexual predators, but that it could be difficult, for example, to set the phone to recording mode, since most teachers students would not have anticipated any bullying. from his teacher.
“Imagine that a professor brings my books to the lecture room or that you are probably the representative of the course and you think that it is normal and correct.
“Most of the time you never get the test because you don’t walk into a professor’s office with the idea of saying let me keep my phone to record. That’s not even on your mind at the time,” she said, adding that the best way to fight sexual harassment in schools is for survivors to speak up.
“I hope that the management (of the university) does something about it so that it doesn’t happen again. Professor Cyril Ndifon is a good lawyer, a law professor and has a lot of influence in the state. If this matter is not properly investigated, I can say that he will win again because it is not the first time,” interrupted another level 100 law student, who was standing close to the other.
The University of Calabar recently suspended law professor Cyril Ndifon as dean of the Faculty of Law, after some law students held a protest rally, accusing him of sexual harassment.
The professor, who denied the accusation, said some professors who were uncomfortable with his leadership style manipulated students against him.

The university has created a committee to investigate the accusations against Mr. Ndifon.
Vice Chancellor Florence Obi said the students who made the accusations will need to present evidence against Mr. Ndifon.
Mr Ndifon, it was previously suspended by the school authority in 2015 after he was accused of raping a 20-year-old law student in his office, an accusation that the professor challenged in court.
His suspension was lifted about a year later, under unclear circumstances: our journalists could find no evidence that the court exonerated the professor.
