During his visit to the Presidential Villa on Wednesday to offer New Year’s wishes to President Bola Tinubu, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno reported that Ibom Air, the state-owned airline, is financially self-sufficient and reinvesting profits into its expansion.
Governor Eno informed the press that the President had requested a memo about his request and inquired about some aviation infrastructure in the state, including the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility for aircraft repairs, which was commissioned by the state government last year at the Victor Attah International Airport.
When asked by the President about Ibom Air’s financial performance, Governor Eno said that the government has no involvement in the running of the airline and that it is making profits, which are being reinvested for expansion. The governor also informed the President about the second taxiway and the new terminal at the airport, as well as the MRO facility, which he was pleased to hear.
Governor Eno also asked the President to support the Ibom Deep Seaport project, which experts believe will create over 10,000 job opportunities.
