The Ogun State Governorate Election Petition Court was adjourned to 4 September after the parties closed their cases in the petition filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Ladi Adebutu.
The petition challenges Governor Dapo Abiodun’s statement of the Congress of all progressives (APC) as the winner of the March 18 state gubernatorial election.
The petitioners closed their cases after calling 94 witnesses and presenting more than 200,000 documents, while the first defendant, INEC, did not call any witnesses.
Mr. Abiodun, the second defendant, called six witnesses, while APC, the third defendant, called four witnesses.

Among the four APC witnesses were Yemi Adelani, who was the party’s state collation agent in the election: Ifede Ifetayo, Ikenne LGA collation agent, and Sulaiman Ayobami, who was its Sagamu LGA agent.
They were called as witnesses on Wednesday by APC lawyer Tayo Oyetibo (SAN) and questioned by Wole Olanipekun (SAN) representing Mr. Abiodun, Goddy Uche (SAN) representing the petitioners and Olumide Ogidan representing to INEC.

Closing the APC case, Mr. Oyetibo said: “Having carefully considered the evidence submitted by the petitioners and the evidence adduced by the defendants, we are satisfied that we have covered the case.”
After the introductions, the president of the court, Hamidu Kunaza, adjourned the proceedings until September 4, for the adoption of the final written speech.
