The event was attended by politicians, celebrities, and supporters, and was aimed at raising funds for the governor’s campaign. The actress was criticized by supporters of the Labour Party, a political party she had openly supported before, for hosting the event.
They accused her of hypocrisy, with some saying she was enabling what she criticized. Femi Adeyeye, an activist, explained that as a host, she was the face of the campaign for that night and that her hosting the event was an approval of what the APC represents. In response to the criticisms, Henshaw stated that she accepted the invitation to host the fundraiser and that it was her prerogative. She also promised to continue speaking her truth.
