The Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ADPHCDA) is currently undertaking a massive hygiene promotion campaign in 11 local government areas of the state that are prone to flooding. Suleiman Bashir, the agency’s president, made the announcement to journalists in Yola, the state capital, on Saturday. He explained that the agency has formed teams to reach out to communities that have been affected by flooding.
The initiative was launched following directives from Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to ensure that no one is left behind and that all areas are covered. Bashir quickly reached out to the executive secretaries of all 21 local government areas, requesting their urgent response, particularly in the affected LGAs.
“With the increase in water filling in all places, including latrines and sewage collection, people who did not consider hygiene will have access to them and may cause cholera and other diseases due to contamination.
“We have activated our community engagement strategy through the Community Health Influencers Program (CHIP) in 226 districts of the state,” he said.
Bashir said the agency also distributed kits, medicines and other items to 21 LGAs.
He appealed to the general public to report any outbreak to the nearest health center for immediate action.
In addition, he congratulated the state government, its partners and civil society organizations for their response strategy and logistics.
