Boniface Aniebonam, the Founder of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), assured supporters on Sunday that the party will not lose its governorship seat in Kano State.
This comes after the Kano State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sacked Governor Abba Yusuf and declared Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the March 18 governorship poll. In a statement from Lagos, Mr. Aniebonam stated that the NNPP, as a party with God’s mandate, will emerge victorious in both the Appeal and Supreme Court.
It is clear that the judgment received by NNPP and its candidate in the Kano State Election Tribunal was not based on justice, but rather on the mortal being’s decision. We should all strive to maintain peace in society while we wait for God’s intervention at the Appeal Court or the Supreme Court.
The APC governorship candidate had already congratulated Mr. Yusuf after the election results were announced and did not contest the decision in the tribunal. The same will happen at the Appeal Court, where justice will be served to NNPP in the name of God and humanity.
It appears that the tribunal may have favored the APC candidate, who did not even approach the court, perhaps acting as Father Christmas. Some Kano state indigenes are unhappy with the rapid demolition of building structures in Kano city, which I am aware of.
The situation is being resolved amicably, even through a court process, which is encouraging democracy where the rule of law is prioritized. The party’s internal conflicts will ultimately strengthen it, according to the former chairman of the Board of Trustees of the NNPP. Further statements will be made after consulting with the party’s leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
This development will benefit them in the upcoming 2027 elections. The Kwankwasiya members are a peaceful and law-abiding political pressure group with a clear ideology of improving welfare for the majority.
