Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed in a fire at Gezawa Market in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
It is the latest in a run of early morning fires at markets in the state.
Kabiru Jafaru, Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to a national newspaper on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the blaze broke out at about 5:15 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2026, after a distress call from a man named Ibrahim Sani.
Fire officers reached the scene quickly and put out the flames before they could spread to other parts of the market.
However, one shop, four containers and seven temporary shops were completely burnt.
The Fire Service urged members of the public to take all necessary safety precautions, especially now that the harmattan season has begun, to prevent similar incidents.
The statement also recalled a bigger fire on Saturday, October 31, 2026, which destroyed no fewer than 110 structures at Kofar Ruwa Timber Market in Kano metropolis.
The Fire Service said that blaze razed 75 permanent buildings and 35 temporary structures.
